This full day of training and technical assistance is based on Building Systems of Care: A Primer adapted specifically for Florida. The day is intended to give participants a common understanding of the principles, operational elements and return on investment of systems of care nationally and as implemented to date in Florida, and of Florida policies and practices that have a bearing on the sustainability and expansion of systems of care. The day is also intended for participants to work closely together, facilitated by technical assistance, to develop specific policy and practice strategies and recommendations to advance systems of care in Florida. While the training will cover a comprehensive view of systems of care nationally and in Florida, technical assistance will focus especially on: the important role of Medicaid MCOs and MEs; the use of Medicaid substitution codes to provide home and community-based services, mobile response, peer support, and customized care coordination for children and youth with serious challenges; the growth and sustainability of family-run organizations and of the youth movement in Florida; coordinated cross-agency policy-making and financing; the role of providers; and the expansion of culturally and linguistically competent policies and practices.
Intended Participants: Youth and young adults, families/caregivers, state agency representatives, Medicaid managed care organization (MCO) representatives, State Management Entity (ME) representatives, local systems of care (current and former grantee and expansion communities), providers, judges, evaluators, and others in key roles.
Sponsored by: The Florida Department of Children and Families, Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health and the National Technical Assistance Network for Children’s Behavioral Health.
